For millennia churches of all types have correctly condemned suicide as a personal and final earthly rebellion against God . Charles Stanley , as do more and more others today, gives a green light to those perhaps unaware they were on the road to eternal darkness in his 8/04/13 sermon , Suicide : The Impact On Believers . This is TBN's Charles Stanley who tells people they need not actually fear God , but merely reverence him . His deep radio voice and air of extreme confidence entices listeners to believe his every word . He says God not only speaks to him through his word , but through certain thoughts that enter his mind that he assumes come directly from God . There is tremendous danger in believing God is telling you to do something other than through Bible verses rightly divided . He is an intelligent man . He has erroneously condoned the Catholic church as legitimate , as has Billy Graham . He is Biblically correct about many issues . It is hard to believe that he cannot see through the deception of the Trinity Broadcasting System and aligns himself with it , being sponsored by it , thus endorsing its innumerable heresies .
Though there may be hundreds more Bible verses that condemn the damnable act of suicide , to me these few following verses stand out clearly . I have known people who committed suicide . They seem to have hidden their deep depression fairly well . Job and other Bible greats contemplated suicide . But truly godly men and women will endure to the end , trusting that God will not put upon them any burden greater than they can bear .
Jesus said , Be thou faithful unto death , and I will give thee a crown of life . You cannot commit suicide by genuine faith in Christ who tells you that you can do all things through him if you have a faith the size of a grain of mustard seed . And though you may have had some form of faith you had no root in yourself but endured for a while, " for when tribulation , or persecution ariseth because of the word , by and by he is offended . He also that received seed among thorns is he that heareth the words and the cares of this world , and the deceitfulness of riches , choke the word , and he becometh unfruitful . " Though the " cares of this world " may be related to riches in this verse , it can be understood that the " cares of this world " may also pertain to everyday pressure everyone undergoes .
A Christian who kills himself was not able to finish after laying a foundation . This will seem callous to some , but then again , so will the gospel which warns men of the hell God has created for the devil and his angels and all who do not love the truth .
Jesus told Christians always to pray and not to faint , for he said in due season we shall reap if we faint not . For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds . Those in Revelation's Ephesus did not faint . People who faint are like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed and should not expect to receive anything of the Lord . They did not fully resist the devil nor fully submit themselves to God's authority . Though the Lord is not willing that any should perish , but that all should come to repentance , they threw down their cross , ( should they have ever actually picked one up ) , and said , not thy will , but my will be done . God says only those with clean hands and pure hearts may ever enter heaven . How will they cleanse their hands after cutting them off themselves ?
God says " If any man defile ( destroy ) the temple of God , him shall God destroy . " Charles Stanley never quoted any verses like these in his deceptive sermon regarding the issue of suicide .
As a supposed pastor of the truth it is his obligation to do so . Surely this simple verse has at one time or another stood out clearly in his mind . Christians are to be dead to sin , for whatsoever is not of faith is sin . And if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth , there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins . Those who commit suicide still sin willfully , for no man hath hated his own flesh . Even non-Christians know it is wrong and they often leave a note behind hoping to expunge themselves of any guilt they suspect God may lay upon them . If they were perceived as Christians they have made their own faith shipwreck and have blotted their own name out of God's book of life through an act of rebellious unbelief .
The book of Hebrews warns Christians to take heed brethren , lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief , in departing from the living God , banning them from entering in because of unbelief , i.e., they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief . Paul mentioned this in Romans saying , " Well ; because of unbelief they were broken off , and thou standest by faith . Be not highminded , but fear . The Bible also says , " Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself ; and let him be your fear and let him be your dread ... and fear not them which kill the body , but are not able to kill the soul : but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell . " ( There is that word fear that Charles Stanley so disdains . ) " For if God spared not the natural branches , take heed lest he also spare not thee . Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God : on them which fell severity ; but toward thee , goodness , if thou continue in his goodness : otherwise thou also shalt be cut off . " To those who desire a fairytale sugar-coated gospel with no serious demands of obedience unto the end , these words of God will seem callous . They too may not work out their own salvation with fear and trembling . Perhaps they too will drop out of the race that is set before them , never reaching the top of Bunyan's hill of difficulty , which can be climbed by faith in Christ .
I wonder if anyone watching Dr. Stanley's unbiblical sermon last Sunday accepted Dr. Stanley's division of the word of truth , deeming suicide as acceptable in God's eyes and took his own life . Perhaps his letters are screened and he may not be advised of many that may have committed suicide because this well known preacher condoned their action and assured them that God allows it . I can already think of letters thanking him for helping their friends or loved ones over the edge , lulling them into a false sense of security .
If it were ever appropriate to mention the devil's devices , including his desire to destroy Christians and non-Christians alike this sermon would have been an appropriate sermon in which to do so . Unfortunately it wasn't done . Though it looks on his website that he may try to reach those contemplating suicide , this sermon negates that attempt . I have not read it nor studied Dr. Stanley at all online and quit watching him long ago . But on its face this sermon clearly condones the suicide of supposed Christians .
I cannot plead with people enough to walk away from the ungodly ministry of Trinity Broadcasting .
Heretical sermons like this are another reason why .
If you have considered suicide I would plead with you to obtain a trustworthy King James Bible and truly trust in Christ to save you from whatever tremendous pressure you are enduring . Others have endured rape , physical and mental torture , drug-induced insanity , demonic possession , etc. and have become victorious through faith in Christ . The old song Jesus loves me this I know , for the Bible tells me so is true . Perhaps you are undergoing a time of testing or extreme rebuke that seems
unbearable . Nothing happens to you that God does not allow . Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding . Only the devil would give you a free pass on suicide .
Jesus' miracles were proof of his deity . He can perform one for you if you are contemplating suicide , and give you life through faith in him . He pleads with you to allow him to do it .
